It’s about the bout.
When did the Columbia QuadSquad begin?
The Columbia QuadSquad Rollergirls, otherwise known as CQS, started in March of 2007. Seven women joined together at a coffee shop after reading a flyer about playing roller derby put up by Auntie Psychotic. Many of us had no idea that what we were getting into would become a citywide and nationwide phenomenon.

When was your first bout?
For 6 months we practiced with other teams, recruited our friends, and learned the sport by visiting neighboring teams in Myrtle Beach and Greenville, SC. Our debut came in August of 2007 when we competed in the first state invitational, Labor Pains in Myrtle Beach.

Do you get paid?
No! We actually PAY dues! CQS runs like a non-profit. All of our money that we make goes to operating the league. We also have a mission to support organizations that help women and children . We currently donate to the Women’s Shelter. A non-profit shelter for homeless women. For more information about our mission, vision, financial statement or charity involvement, please contact the appropriate board member here.

How often do you play?
CQS plays about once a month with a couple month break during summer and December. Around half of those games are played at home. If you’d like to know more about our calendar, please visit here

Can anyone play?
Anyone can get involved with roller derby, but only women over the age of 18 can play for the Columbia QuadSquad. Since we are such a new league we are constantly looking for new skaters, referee’s, volunteers & even coaches! If you’re interested...give us a call or drop us a line!

Who is WFTDA?
Founded in 2004, the WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Women skaters are primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association. Operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues. All member leagues have a voice in the decision-making process, and agree to comply with the governing body’s policies.

CQS uses WFTDA’s rules. If you REALLY want to learn about flat track roller derby you can download the 28-page rule book by clicking this link: wftda_official_rules_version_4_0.pdf
