Training Wheel Sessions

Stay tuned for announcements about our next Fresh Meat Class!

The Columbia QuadSquad recruits new skaters about two times per year. This fall’s tryouts proved that our sport is growing and here to stay!

Our 8 week program will teach these new skaters safety, the rules of the game, strategy, and ultimately turn them into some of the baddest chicks on eight wheels!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email our New Skater Coordinator, Chucktown Bruiser at [email protected] or the head of the Training Committee, Truckstop at [email protected].

You must be 18 years old or older and be able to afford monthly dues.  For insurance purposes, a liability waiver is required before tryouts.  Required gear includes skates, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, helmet, and mouth guard (we have limited gear you can borrow till you get yours).  If you are interested in purchasing skates, we recommend contacting a roller girl for tips on preferred brands.

Derby is a physically demanding sport.  Get in shape!  The more you skate, the better.  You can learn to skate by attending open skate at the Skate Station USA in Lexington (803-356-3500).  Normal rink fees apply.

Once you’ve made the team, you can expect to attend at least two practices per week.  We currently practice Sunday, Tuesdays , and Wednesdays.  You will need to purchase your own gear and pay for the upkeep of your equipment.  Dues required each month are currently set at $35.  Bumps and bruises are to be expected, but you will receive amazing support from some tough athletes!

Want to skate, but don’t want to knock into others? Why not call the shots and referee? We are always looking for more referees. Training provided by our head ref, Julius Seizure at our weekly practices. Email [email protected] for more information.
